2022 Fall

Enjoying the cooling fall breeze under the still presently warm sun while staining the hoophouse frame and getting closer to finishing it up for winter food growth for the neighborhood. Planning to sheet wrap the pantry and prep for community stucco workshop in the spring, along with a bigger Neighborhood Tree Planting Project in 2023 including the much desired and beneficial Redbud Tree! 2022 was a fallow year for most of our annual gardens. Allowing the soil to rest and regenerate encourages potassium and phosphorus from deep below to rise toward the surface. It also raises carbon, nitrogen, organic matter, water capacity, and increases microorganisms in the soil. Our native perennials produced figs, hazelnuts, pecans, black walnut, dates, sunchoke, elder, rosehips, berries, herbs, etc. as usual and white grapes for the first time! Other areas were remediated and lead soil was removed and replaced with compost and mulch. We are anticipating a busy and robust year for many advancements, deeper meaning and commitments to this project and more to come in Evansville, IN.
